Amina Baha

I have witnessed our population's vibrant changes, yet this diversity is absent from our city council. As a committed community advocate, I see a pressing need for greater transparency and a stronger sense of community. These gaps directly affect community involvement, resident-law enforcement relationships, safety, and civic engagement.

Greetings and thank you for stopping by, and getting to know a bit about me and my journey.
I am a first-generation immigrant from Afghanistan who grew up in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis, I knew early on that I didn’t want to be another statistic or stereotype. I was determined to embody the "American Dream" and the success of a thriving immigrant. With my father's support and the guidance of mentors, I excelled academically, and professionally from starting at the University of St. Catherine to graduating from St. Mary’s with an IT degree and landing my first corporate job, I had people motivate, believe, and invest in me. Which led me to become a trailblazer. As a woman of color in a male-dominated field, I developed resilience and quickly learned the intricacies of the American corporate system.
I am excited to bring my experience, skills, and passion for community service to address the diverse needs of Blaine residents. With a successful track record in starting and managing a non-profit organization, I have demonstrated strong leadership and strategic decision-making. My experience with new Americans, immigrants, and people of color has equipped me to remove barriers and enhance access to essential services. I have a proven ability to secure resources, build partnerships, and collaborate with stakeholders. My expertise in crisis management, data analysis, project management, and stakeholder relations ensures I am well-prepared to tackle the challenges of a city council position. Representation matters, especially now that my children attend school here.
I have been a Blaine resident since 2009. My husband and I built our first house in Crescent Ponds in Ward 3. Today, our children attend elementary and middle schools. I've seen Blaine grow and develop, and it is time for that change to be reflected in the city council.
Your support will help bring about the positive, inclusive change our community needs.

Blaine Issues per my survey

Sports Construction Boom

Across America, there's a surge in sports facility construction, with cities investing millions in new stadiums and sports businesses. Despite promises of economic benefits, studies show these projects don't deliver, burdening taxpayers while benefiting developers, team owners, and players. Blaine, considers similar projects, it's vital to carefully examine the supposed benefits. The financial strain on taxpayers and dubious economic returns should prompt us to explore alternatives and prioritize sustainable, community-focused investments.

Community Center

In a city with over 70,000 residents, the absence of a community center leaves a noticeable gap in opportunities for engagement, learning, and social connection. Such a center could serve as a hub for diverse activities, from fitness classes and cultural events to educational programs and meeting spaces. Without this vital resource, residents find it challenging to access affordable recreation options or participate in community-building activities. The need for a community center underscores the importance of investing in spaces that enhance the quality of life for all members of the community.

Transparency

Transparency in local politics, especially within bodies like the city council, is paramount for fostering trust and accountability. When decisions & minds are made ahead of time, without input or understanding from the community, it can lead to skepticism and frustration. Transparent processes ensure that residents are informed about the issues that affect them and have a voice in the decisions that shape their lives. It promotes ethical behavior among officials and helps prevent corruption. Ultimately, transparency in local politics strengthens democracy by empowering citizens to participate actively in the governance of their communities.

Voices of the Unheard

Inclusive participation in local politics ensures a representative and fair society. By actively engaging marginalized communities, governments can address inequalities and create better policies. Empowering these groups leads to a more diverse and informed community, fostering a just and equitable society for all.
